Trentham Estate is thrilled to announce that it has received the top award for a Sauvignon Blanc at the 2018 New South Wales Wine Awards.

The 2018 Sauvignon Blanc was awarded the Charles Sturt University Trophy for Best Sauvignon Blanc in the ‘Current Sauvignon Blanc’ category at the Awards Presentation Lunch held in Sydney on Friday, 19th October, with Trentham’s winemaker and managing director Anthony Murphy present to receive the award.

Unlike traditional wine shows, the judges of the New South Wales Wine Awards taste wines of similar style regardless of the size of the producer. The awards are divided into categories and classes, mostly by varietal. Entries are judged by three panels headed by Chief Judge Dave Brookes and each panel is chaired by a leading figure of Australian wine.

This is Trentham Estate’s second Trophy for a Sauvignon Blanc, receiving the same show’s trophy for their 2013 vintage at that year’s awards. The NSW Wine Awards judges gave the 2018 Estate Grown Sauvignon Blanc an exceptional verdict: “Top wine classy, complex and complete.” The winemaking team at Trentham Estate are delighted about the win, with Anthony Murphy declaring “it is a fantastic achievement for us; it was a very good vintage and we are extremely pleased”.

Other Trentham wines having success in the show included the new River Retreat NV Pink Moscato which received Silver, with the wine being served at the pre-function dinner on Thursday 18th of October, at NSW Parliament House. Bronze medals were also awarded to the 2018 The Family Frizzante Maestri, 2017 Reserve Tumbarumba Chardonnay, 2018 Estate Grown Chardonnay and 2017 Estate Grown Pinot Noir.

The award-winning Estate Grown Sauvignon Blanc is now available for purchase from our Cellar Door and online shop.
