It’s Halliday results time again and Trentham Estate are thrilled to announce our recent success in the 2019 James Halliday Wine Companion. Receiving strong ratings across all wines submitted, with 4 wines scoring 90 Points! The results testify to Trentham’s commitment to produce consistent premium quality wines, year after year. James Halliday is one of the world’s leading authorities on Australian wine; matching intelligent and honest reviews with unparalleled knowledge of, and passion for, the wine industry. His book ‘Australian Wine Companion’ remains a benchmark guide to Australian wine and is a must-have item for wine lovers.

“Remarkably consistent tasting notes across all wine styles from all vintages attest to the expertise of ex-Mildara winemaker Tony Murphy, a well known and highly regarded producer. Estate vineyards are on the Murray Darling. With an eye to the future, but also to broadening the range of the wines in offer, Trentham Estate is selectively buying grapes from other regions with a track record for the chosen varieties. The value for money is unfailingly excellent. Exports to the UK, China and other major markets.”

The ratings and tasting notes for select individual wines are listed below:

2017 Estate Grown Chardonnay - 90 POINTS

Only Tony Murphy knows how to conjure up wines, particularly white, of this quality from the Murray Darling, and I'm sure he's not about to tell. What's more, he does it again and again, not missing the opportunity in years like '17. White peach, crisp acidity and an inflection of French oak all fall into place.

2017 Estate Grown Sauvignon Blanc - 90 POINTS

The special yeast selected from wild yeast strains has doubtless played a critical role in the expression of tropical fruits ranging from lychee, guava and passionfruit. That said, detailed attention in the vineyard and winery alike has added to the outcome.

2017 Reserve Tumbarumba Chardonnay - 90 POINTS

Hand-picked, whole-bunch pressed, fermentation commenced in stainless steel, completed in French oak, matured for 6 months. It seems obvious that the oak was used, and equally obvious that new oak would have suffocated what is an elegant wine, length its strong point.

2015 Reserve Heathcote Shiraz - 90 POINTS

Good wine made from good grapes isn't a no-brainer, even when it's an eager-to-please variety. This is an elegant light to medium-bodied wine that takes full advantage of the '15 vintage.

2017 The Family Sangiovese Rose - 89 POINTS

Bright, clear crimson; the bouquet is the bouquet of a vase of field flowers, rose petals also contributing. The palate is a logical follow-on, with generous flavours. Value+.

2016 Estate Grown Shiraz - 89 POINTS

Trentham never misses a beat, conjuring up wines that are full of varietal flavour and complexity at a giveaway price. The black cherry/blackberry fruit has been given some oak treatment and tannin support.
