Yes, we are proud to introduce another new style to our stable of alternative varieties – the Spanish white variety Verdejo. The Verdejo (pronounced vehr-deck-oh) is an intriguing white wine with aromas of citrus along with light floral notes and soft, crisp and creamy overtones. Trentham Estate is the first Australian winery to have harvested it, and that adventurous philosophy is already being rewarded, with a remarkable FIVE trophies recently received at some of the country’s most prestigious wine shows. The newly released 2013 Verdejo was awarded two trophies at the 2013 Australian Alternative Varieties Wine Show, namely the Best Spanish White Wine and the Best Murray Darling Region Wine. A very pleasing result for the first Spanish style we have produced and a great reward for our continuous pioneering of alternative styles. In addition, the Verdejo has taken out the Best Dry White Wine trophy from the 2013 Riverland Wine Show as well as the Best Dry White Wine and Best Murray Darling Region Wine trophies from the 2013 Australian Inland Wine Show. A spectacular outcome for our debut vintage! Verdejo is one of the main varieties grown in the Rueda region of Spain and has rarely been trialled outside its native soil. A very old grape varietal dating back to the 11th century, the Verdejo fruit was lost in obscurity for hundreds of years, before being rediscovered - and re-popularized - a little over a decade ago. Here at Trentham we harvested 6.5 tonnes of Verdejo in February this year and from this small but quality parcel of fruit have produced a fleshy, tropical and very unique style that we are delighted to unveil. You will find our new Verdejo in Cellar Door or order online. Share our success – our life, your wine.
